The Bart Hose Award for Excellence

Bart Hose joined the Suffolk County Police Department in 1963 after serving in the United States Marine Corps. The early part of his career was spent as a Patrol Officer and Sergeant, followed by several years in the Police Academy as an Instructor. He graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1973 after completing the 92nd Session. Following his promotion to Lieutenant, he was assigned as the Commanding Officer of Recruit Training. Upon promotion to Captain in 1975, he was designated the Executive Officer of the Police Academy and held that position until his promotion to Deputy Inspector, at which time he became the Commanding Officer of the Marine Bureau.

Suffolk County Police have launched one of their vessels called the “Marine Juliett” also carries the name F. Barton Hose.  The Juliett was the second Marine Bureau boat to respond to the crash of TWA flight 800, and a plaque in the cabin reads as follows:

This vessel is named in honor of Deputy Inspector Bart Hose as a memorial to his dedication and devotion to duty in the traditions of the Suffolk County Police Department.  Bart Hose was a lifelong resident of Suffolk County, being born on February 21, 1938 in Bay Shore, New York.  He joined the Suffolk County Police Department on January 21, 1963 and was the Commanding Officer of the Marine Bureau from May of 1980 until his demise on September 9, 1983.  Bart lived in East Islip, NY with his wife, Stephanie and their two sons.  Bart will be remembered for his energy, enthusiasm, sense of humor and great wit.  He was admired and respected by everyone who knew him.  May his spirit guide this vessel and the men who sail her.
